TMA 285 : Production: Intermediate (3:3:3)

WHEN TAUGHT: Fall; Winter
PREREQUISITE: TMA 185, TMA 187, & TMA 291; or TMA 185, TMA 187, & TMA 292. major status.
Concurrent enrollment TMA 215R
DESCRIPTION: Survey and application of the basics of narrative and nonfiction, including 16-mm film. Lecture, discussion, lab, and individual/group experiences and critiques.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
  • Make practical production decisions
  • Guide a film from pre-production, through production, to post-production;
  • Collaborate effectively with other filmmakers in the creation of a film;
  • Function in at least 15 different positions, including Unit Production Manager, Location Manager, CastingDirector, Director, 1st Assistant Director, 2nd Assistant Director, Cinematographer, 1st Assistant Camera, Gaffer, Grip, Sound Recordist, Script Supervisor, Art Director, Post-production Supervisor, Editor, Foley Artist, Dialogue Editor, Mixer
  • Use the equipment, tools and technologies associated with each position.

Prereq Courses

  • TMA 105 & 185, 187
  • Complete or enroll in TMA 291 or 292
  • Required enrollment for 1 credit TMA 215R

Application Process and Submission Materials

  • TMA 185 Final project rehearsal and final cuts (on DVD)
  • One page evaluation of your TMA 185 Final project
  • Current ABC Progress Report
  • Agreement to the class requirements
    • Class fee ($100-200)
    • Heavy time commitment during pre-production and production

Deadline to Submit Materials

  • Application due dates for the following semesters:
    • Fall 2012: June 11, 2012
    • Winter 2013: December 6, 2012
    • Fall 2013: June 17th, 2013
    • Winter 2014: December 12, 2013
