BYU Publications & Graphics, which provides video, editorial, design, and web services for the university, is offering a student job for someone diligent, dependable, teachable, and committed to working as a professional, entry-level script writer and also as an SEO writer/editor.
The writer would work with a film team to conceptualize stories mostly for BYU Magazine and for BYU Speeches. The film team includes photographers, producers, film editors, commercial music composers, colorists, etc.—all usually under the same roof. This person would often be working with various professors, alumni, and professionals in creating scripts and concepts for film shorts as well as identifying great stories from our collection of 2,000 BYU devotionals and forums. Here is one example of what we’ve done. Here is another.
As an SEO writer you can expect to write biographies of BYU Speeches authors, compose 125-word summaries of each of our current 2,000 online speeches, create titles and subheads that are search engine optimized (SEO), and assist with the organization of speeches.byu.edu and other BYU websites. As an added bonus, you’ll be part of an SEO team and can become certified as you use the remarkable Conductor searchlight software.
We would like to hire someone who can start fall term and who can stay at least two semesters. We prefer someone who has taken scriptwriting and/or perhaps creative-writing classes and has a love for telling stories through the English language.
