The Basement Creative Lab is a new production studio space at the Provo City Library available free to Provo residents for sound and video recording. The mission of the Basement Creative Lab is primarily educational; it is a place for residents to learn and practice video and audio production skills. With a host of cameras, lights, microphones, and other equipment available, Provo residents can create a variety of media projects in the lab.

In addition to the studio space, the Basement Creative Lab will also offer two more production tools for our patrons: First, a small collection of equipment that Provo residents can check out to use outside of the Library; and second, two editing stations with Adobe Creative Cloud and other software for video, audio, and graphics editing.

Essential Duties: This is an assistant position supporting the Basement Creative Lab at the Provo City Library. The individual appointed to this position will be required to perform the following duties for The Basement Creative Lab: check in and out media production equipment; assist with troubleshooting Creative Lab equipment; assist in scheduling studio sessions; supervise patrons while studio space is in use; teach basic classes with a variety of video and audio recording equipment, including cameras, microphones, and lights; create videos for library marketing; light cleaning; and other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. with some experience in working with audiovisual equipment. Computer skills (such as experience with MS Office and basic editing software) are necessary.

Preferences: Preference may be given to applicants with some college and/or experience working in a media lab or in media production.

License: Valid, lawful drivers license will be required at time of appointment. Applicant will be disqualified from driving for the City on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Selection Factors: Knowledge of English composition, spelling, grammar, and word processing software. Familiarity with video cameras, DSLRs, microphones, lighting for camera, and sound recording, as well as editing software. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Wage: $15.00 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.

Hours: Twenty to twenty-five (20-25) hours per week; afternoons and evenings Monday through Friday and during the day on Saturday.

Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.

Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires remaining seated at a computer for extended periods of time, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and other physical demands associated with special events and working with the public. Some events may include exposure to stressful situations.

Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicants will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screening results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
