Job Summary

Assist the A/V Operations Manager in coordinating and meeting the video needs for productions and events primarily within BYU’s College of Fine Arts and Communications (CFAC).  This is a half-time position (17.5hrs/wk).

Essential Functions

  1. Serve as an assistant to the A/V Operations Manager in coordinating and managing video personnel in recording, editing, and archiving of video as follows (50%):
    1. Documentation of classroom instruction, rehearsals, competitions, and public performances-these recordings will serve the purposes of course and program assessment, improvement of teaching and learning, rehearsals or performances, documentation of faculty work for use in Rank and Status applications, etc.
    2. Production of original video for use in live performances and other settings
    3. Documentation of college meetings, convocations, lectures, etc.
    4. Production of video materials for marketing and public relations needs
    5. Other video-related production needs as they relate to the performing arts
  2. Provide technical support for productions and events as listed in function number 1 (25%):
    1. Direct multi-camera shoots for larger productions and events
    2. Record and edit other projects as time and other responsibilities allow
  3. Assist in managing the archive database in a well-organized, timely, and readily-searchable manner (15%):
  4. Assist in organizing and maintaining video equipment inventory (10%):
    1. Help ensure equipment is always in top working order
    2. Make recommendations to keep inventory in line with current technologies and trends

  1. Training and scheduling student employees
  2. Distribution and management of workload relating to area of responsibility
  3. Collaborate (offer creative input and guidance) with directors, choreographers, artistic directors, conductors, area heads, production managers, clients, marketing, and etc. in achieving the appropriate artistic aims of each event, concert, production, or class needing video services
  4. Collaborate (offer creative input and guidance) with designers and technicians in stage management, technical costuming/makeup, lighting, scenic, sound, stage, and tour operations

Referred:

  1. Hiring or firing of student employees is to be done under the direction of A/V Operations Manager
  2. Maintenance practices and use policies for equipment and video assets/library inventories is to be done under the direction of A/V Operations Manager
  3. Ordering equipment and supplies is to be done under the direction of A/V Operations Manager
  4. Determining and managing video standards and scheduling practices is to be done under the direction of A/V Operations Manager

Education/Experience

Minimum education/experience required:

Five (5) or more years of professional video production experience

Preferred:

Bachelors degree with three (3) or more years of professional video production experience

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications (please indicate whether “required” or “preferred”):

  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills; demonstrated negotiation skills and ability to remain consistently calm and collected in stressful situations (required)
  • Ability to work and communicate expertly with composers, musicians, conductors, directors, dancers, producers, technicians, etc. (required)
  • Ability to collaborate with designers and technicians in stage management, costuming, lighting, marketing, scenic, sound, and video (required)
  • Proven ability to train others, maintaining a positive working environment that also supports clients in a positive manner (required)
  • Skill in Adobe Premiere and/or other video editing software (required)
  • Skill in digital videography and photography (required)
  • Skill in multi-camera video direction (preferred)
  • Ability to integrate media equipment with computer technology to support video needs in an academic or live performance setting (preferred)
  • Skill in network server technologies and file system management (preferred)

Employee Class: 1/2 Time (17.5 hour)
